What's Growing Under Our Grow Lights?
One of the most exciting parts of the Garden Science Series is watching tiny seeds transform into living plants. This week, my kids and I planted a variety of flowers, herbs, and vegetables under our grow lights and began our scientific observations.
Our garden trays are filled with a colorful mix of sunflowers, zinnias, dahlias, snapdragons, tulsi, evening primrose, onions, chives, sage, dill, burdock, arugula, and cauliflower. Each plant offers a unique opportunity to learn about germination, plant growth, life cycles, and the needs of living things.
The first exciting discovery came just two days after planting. Our arugula seeds were the first to sprout, emerging from the soil only 48 hours after being planted. The children were thrilled to spot the tiny seedlings. Can you spot the fuzzy seed in the image above?
Over the coming weeks, we will continue observing our seedlings under the grow lights as they develop roots, stems, and leaves. My kids and I will learn about plant structures, pollinators, ecosystems, and the important role plants play in our world.
Our current garden includes:
Sunflowers (Orange, Plum, Rouge Royale, and Darjeeling)
Zinnia 'Zinderella Peach'
Decorative and Pompon Dahlias
Snapdragon 'Madame Butterfly'
Tulsi (Holy Basil)
Evening Primrose
Onion
Chives
Sage
Dill
Burdock
Arugula
Cauliflower
Every seed planted is an opportunity for discovery. We can't wait to see what sprouts next!
Stay tuned as we continue to observe, explore, and grow together at Casa Feliz Schoolhouse.
